DC Parking Zone Map & Lookup
Washington DC has eight residential parking zones, numbered 1 to 8, and each one matches the ward with the same number — Ward 1 is Zone 1, Ward 6 is Zone 6. Search a neighborhood, ward, or zone number to see what it covers, where its boundaries run, and where your sticker stops working.
Updated August 25, 2026
Type a neighborhood ("Adams Morgan"), a ward ("Ward 6"), or a zone number ("Zone 1").
All 8 DC residential parking zones
RPP Zone 1
Ward 1Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Mount Pleasant, U Street, Shaw (north), Park View
Boundaries: Runs roughly from Rock Creek Park east to Georgia Ave, and from Harvard St up past Spring Rd. The Shaw and Bloomingdale seams touch Zone 2 and Zone 5.
Watch out: 18th St NW, Columbia Rd, and the blocks off 14th St carry 'including Sundays and holidays' plates, so the 2-hour clock runs seven days a week.
RPP Zone 2
Ward 2Dupont Circle, Logan Circle, Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, Downtown, Penn Quarter
Boundaries: Covers the core: the Potomac east through downtown to roughly 7th St NW, north to Florida Ave. Much of the commercial core carries no RPP plate at all.
Watch out: Meters override RPP here. A Zone 2 sticker buys nothing on a metered block, and K St, Connecticut Ave, and Pennsylvania Ave run rush-hour clearways.
RPP Zone 3
Ward 3Cleveland Park, Woodley Park, Tenleytown, Glover Park, Friendship Heights
Boundaries: West of Rock Creek Park, from Woodley Park north to the Maryland line at Friendship Heights.
Watch out: Connecticut and Wisconsin Ave carry rush-hour restrictions; blocks beside the Zoo and Metro entrances are excluded from RPP entirely.
RPP Zone 4
Ward 4Petworth, Brightwood, Takoma, 16th Street Heights
Boundaries: Upper northwest and north-central DC, from roughly Spring Rd north to the Maryland line at Takoma.
Watch out: Georgia Ave and 16th St are rush-hour routes. Petworth blocks near the Metro fill early on weekday mornings.
RPP Zone 5
Ward 5Brookland, Eckington, Bloomingdale, Trinidad, Edgewood
Boundaries: Northeast DC, from North Capitol St east past Bladensburg Rd, south to Florida Ave NE.
Watch out: Campus-adjacent Brookland blocks and the Union Market area often post hard time limits with no RPP exemption.
RPP Zone 6
Ward 6Capitol Hill, NoMa, Navy Yard, H Street NE, Southwest Waterfront
Boundaries: Both sides of the Capitol, from NoMa south through Navy Yard and across to the Southwest Waterfront.
Watch out: Game and event days bring temporary paper no-parking notices that override the permanent sign — and they are towed, not just ticketed.
RPP Zone 7
Ward 7Deanwood, Benning, Hillcrest, Fort Dupont, Kingman Park (east)
Boundaries: East of the Anacostia River, north of Naylor Rd, out to the Maryland line.
Watch out: Metro station blocks draw commuter parking, so the 2-hour limit is actively enforced there while side streets rarely are.
RPP Zone 8
Ward 8Anacostia, Congress Heights, Bellevue, Barry Farm
Boundaries: Southeast of the Anacostia River, south of Naylor Rd to the Maryland line.
Watch out: Event nights at the Entertainment and Sports Arena trigger posted temporary restrictions on nearby blocks.
Your sticker exempts you from the posted 2-hour limit inside your own zone only. The ResPP plate on the block is what enforcement reads — full zone guide.
What your zone number actually buys you
One thing: an exemption from the posted 2-hour limit on residential blocks carrying your zone plate. It does nothing at a meter, nothing on a rush-hour clearway, nothing during a street sweeping window, and nothing on a block excluded from RPP. Dinner one zone over is a 2-hour visit, not an evening — that mismatch is the most common $50 ticket in DC.
Zone numbers only changed when ward lines were last redrawn in 2022, but your own zone changes the moment you update the address on your vehicle registration — not when you move.
Zone by zone: boundaries and the blocks that bite
A zone number tells you where your sticker works. These notes tell you where it stops working — the seams, the excluded blocks, and the corridors that carry a second restriction on top of RPP.
Zone 1 · Ward 1
Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Mount Pleasant, U Street, Shaw (north), Park View
Rough boundaries: Runs roughly from Rock Creek Park east to Georgia Ave, and from Harvard St up past Spring Rd. The Shaw and Bloomingdale seams touch Zone 2 and Zone 5.
Watch out for: 18th St NW, Columbia Rd, and the blocks off 14th St carry 'including Sundays and holidays' plates, so the 2-hour clock runs seven days a week.
Zone 2 · Ward 2
Dupont Circle, Logan Circle, Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, Downtown, Penn Quarter
Rough boundaries: Covers the core: the Potomac east through downtown to roughly 7th St NW, north to Florida Ave. Much of the commercial core carries no RPP plate at all.
Watch out for: Meters override RPP here. A Zone 2 sticker buys nothing on a metered block, and K St, Connecticut Ave, and Pennsylvania Ave run rush-hour clearways.
Zone 3 · Ward 3
Cleveland Park, Woodley Park, Tenleytown, Glover Park, Friendship Heights
Rough boundaries: West of Rock Creek Park, from Woodley Park north to the Maryland line at Friendship Heights.
Watch out for: Connecticut and Wisconsin Ave carry rush-hour restrictions; blocks beside the Zoo and Metro entrances are excluded from RPP entirely.
Zone 4 · Ward 4
Petworth, Brightwood, Takoma, 16th Street Heights
Rough boundaries: Upper northwest and north-central DC, from roughly Spring Rd north to the Maryland line at Takoma.
Watch out for: Georgia Ave and 16th St are rush-hour routes. Petworth blocks near the Metro fill early on weekday mornings.
Zone 5 · Ward 5
Brookland, Eckington, Bloomingdale, Trinidad, Edgewood
Rough boundaries: Northeast DC, from North Capitol St east past Bladensburg Rd, south to Florida Ave NE.
Watch out for: Campus-adjacent Brookland blocks and the Union Market area often post hard time limits with no RPP exemption.
Zone 6 · Ward 6
Capitol Hill, NoMa, Navy Yard, H Street NE, Southwest Waterfront
Rough boundaries: Both sides of the Capitol, from NoMa south through Navy Yard and across to the Southwest Waterfront.
Watch out for: Game and event days bring temporary paper no-parking notices that override the permanent sign — and they are towed, not just ticketed.
Zone 7 · Ward 7
Deanwood, Benning, Hillcrest, Fort Dupont, Kingman Park (east)
Rough boundaries: East of the Anacostia River, north of Naylor Rd, out to the Maryland line.
Watch out for: Metro station blocks draw commuter parking, so the 2-hour limit is actively enforced there while side streets rarely are.
Zone 8 · Ward 8
Anacostia, Congress Heights, Bellevue, Barry Farm
Rough boundaries: Southeast of the Anacostia River, south of Naylor Rd to the Maryland line.
Watch out for: Event nights at the Entertainment and Sports Arena trigger posted temporary restrictions on nearby blocks.
Boundaries are described the way drivers navigate, not to the parcel. Ward lines were last redrawn in 2022 — the zone plate on the block is always the authority.
How to find your DC parking zone
Fastest route: search your neighborhood in the lookup above. Then confirm it against the block:
- Read your sticker. The RPP decal on your windshield shows a single zone number. That is the only zone where it exempts you from the 2-hour limit.
- Match it to the block. Residential blocks carry a small plate under the 2-hour sign reading "ResPP Zone 3" or similar. Same number as your sticker means you can stay; a different number means the clock is running.
- Check the ward, not the neighborhood name. Neighborhood names cross ward lines — Shaw and Bloomingdale sit near a Zone 1 / Zone 5 seam, and Kingman Park spans Zone 6 and Zone 7 blocks.
- Assume nothing near a boundary. On a boundary street, one side of the road can be in a different zone than the other.
Zone traps DC drivers hit most
- Visiting a friend one zone over. Dinner in Columbia Heights (Zone 1) on a Zone 2 sticker is a 2-hour visit, not an evening. This is the single most common $50 RPP ticket.
- Blocks excluded from RPP entirely. Curbs beside hospitals, universities, Metro entrances, and commercial strips often carry no zone plate at all — meters or hard time limits apply to everyone, residents included.
- "Including Sundays and Holidays" plates. Some blocks near nightlife corridors and campuses enforce the 2-hour limit seven days a week, overriding the usual weekday-only rule.
- Zone number vs. meter zone number. ParkDC meter zones and RPP zones use unrelated numbering. A meter labeled zone 12 has nothing to do with RPP Zone 1 or 2.
- Registration address drift. Move within DC and your zone changes only when you update your registration — until then your sticker is valid for your old zone.

DC parking zone questions
How many parking zones are there in Washington DC?
Washington DC has eight Residential Parking Permit (RPP) zones, numbered 1 through 8. Each zone matches the ward of the same number, so RPP Zone 1 covers Ward 1 blocks, Zone 2 covers Ward 2, and so on. Your zone number is printed on your RPP sticker and is tied to the address on your vehicle registration.
How do I find my DC parking zone?
Your zone number equals your ward number. Search your neighborhood or ward in the lookup above, then confirm it against the number on your RPP sticker and the small ResPP zone plate mounted below the block's 2-hour parking sign. If the number on the sign does not match your sticker, the 2-hour limit applies to you.
Can I park in a different DC parking zone?
Yes, but only for the posted time limit — typically 2 hours on weekdays between 7:00 AM and 8:30 PM. Outside your own zone your RPP sticker gives you no extra time, and staying past the limit is a $50 overtime ticket even if you never moved out of a legal space.
Do DC parking zone boundaries follow ward lines exactly?
Mostly. Zone numbers mirror ward numbers, but enforcement follows the sign on the individual block, not the map. Blocks near a ward boundary can carry a zone plate for the neighboring zone, and some blocks near hospitals, campuses, and Metro stations are excluded from RPP entirely.
What is DC parking Zone 1?
RPP Zone 1 is Ward 1: Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Mount Pleasant, the U Street corridor, Park View, and the northern edge of Shaw. It is the tightest zone in the city because rowhouse blocks with no driveways sit directly next to nightlife corridors, so a Zone 1 sticker still competes with hundreds of 2-hour visitors every evening.
What does a Zone 2 parking permit cover in DC?
Zone 2 is Ward 2: Dupont Circle, Logan Circle, Georgetown, Foggy Bottom, Downtown, and Penn Quarter. A Zone 2 permit exempts you from the posted 2-hour limit on residential Zone 2 blocks only. It does nothing at a meter, nothing on a rush-hour clearway, and nothing on the many downtown blocks that carry no RPP plate at all.
What is Zone 6 parking in DC?
RPP Zone 6 is Ward 6: Capitol Hill, Navy Yard, H Street NE, Southwest Waterfront, and Kingman Park. It carries the heaviest commuter and event pressure in the city because Union Station, the Capitol complex, and Nationals Park all sit inside it, and many Capitol Hill blocks are excluded from RPP or capped at 2 hours for everyone.
Is there a DC parking zone map I can check by address?
There is no single official map that answers one curb. DDOT publishes RPP zone and ward boundary layers, and Open Data DC publishes the raw curb-regulation GIS layer behind them, but you still have to combine zone, meter hours, rush-hour restrictions, and sweeping yourself. Practically, your ward number is your zone number, and the zone plate on the block is what enforcement reads.
Next: check one specific block right now, compare the official DC parking maps, how to register for an RPP, or the street parking distance rules.
